Nathaniel hawthorne

He was an American author who wrote short stories and novels. He was born in Salem , Massachusetts in 1804. John Hathorne is one of his ancestors who was the only judge in the Salem witch trials who didn't repent so, Nathaniel added a "w" to his last name to be unassociated with him. He graduated from Bowdoin college in 1825 and then wrote his first novel Fanshawe in 1828, later he didn't think it was as good as his later novels. He got engaged to Sophia Peabody and before they got married he worked at a custom house (the introductory chapter in the Scarlet Letter). He wrote the Scarlet Letter in 1850 after some successful novels. He passed in 1864 leaving a wife and three children. Most of his works had a main theme of hypocrisy also he mainly focused on New England and the Puritans.
